USDA continues to support biobased manufacturing with its recent announcement that it is accepting applications for loan guarantees of up to $250 million as part of an assistance program previously called the Biorefinery Assistance Program. The new program, called the Biorefinery, Renewable Chemical, and Biobased Product Manufacturing Assistance Program will provide funds to be used for the development, construction, and retrofitting of:

  • Commercial-scale biorefineries using eligible technology
  • Biobased product manufacturing facilities that use Technologically New Commercial-Scale processing and manufacturing equipment; and
  • Refinancing (in some circumstances)

Applicants to the program should be lenders and the borrowers can be:

  • Individuals
  • Public and private entities
  • State and local governments
  • Corporations
  • Indian tribes
  • Farm Cooperatives, and Farm Cooperative Organizations
  • Associations of Agricultural Producers
  • National Laboratories
  • Institutions of Higher Education
  • Public Power entities
