Keynote presentation: Our keynote speaker, Geoff Duyk of Circularis Partners, will discuss the climate need and economic opportunity of building a circular bioeconomy. He’ll speak to Maine’s unique advantage, the very real challenges – and opportunities –– of operating in the biobased materials industry, and discuss how to move the needle on investment and commercial development in this emerging sector.

Scaling Up: Doing Well by Doing Good

In this talk, the audience will hear from Jo Anne Shatkin of Vireo Advisors who knows first-hand what it takes to do well by doing good, and what to look for when scaling innovative technologies, and advancing a more sustainable and healthier economy.

Panel 1: Building a Successful Biobased Business in Maine

Our first panel will feature Maine’s leading biobased businesses, who will speak to the ins and outs of building a successful company in Maine. This panel will feature Josh Henry of GO LabsMike Cassata of Biofine Developments Northeast, and George Seaver of Ocean Organics, remarkable entrepreneurs all.

Panel 2: Investing in Maine’s Bioeconomy

Our final panel of investors and economic development advocates will speak to how they’re working to grow Maine’s bioeconomy, what they look for in business plans, and what incentives are available for biobased companies in Maine, led by John Burns of Maine Venture Fund and Mary Grace Schley of the Maine Department of Economic & Community Development, followed by ample time for Q&A.
