Feb 26 – As part of the 2014 Farm Bill, there will be $8.7 million available for bioenergy research and education efforts. According to Agriculture Secretary Vilsack, this program will:

  1. Support rural development
  2. Reduce the nation’s carbon footprint, and
  3. Reduce our dependence on foreign energy.

Also, USDA is accepting applications for the Biomass Research and Development Initiative (BDRI). Proposed projects must integrate science and engineering and pertain to one of the following areas:

  1. Feedstock development
  2. Biofuels development
  3. Biobased product development
