Amyris, a global renewable products company that makes sustainable alternatives to traditional chemical products, recently announced a new industrial cleaning product that is renewable and is designed to replace traditional industrial solvents. Industrial solvents, also called degreasers, are needed to clean and degrease during manufacturing and other industrial processes (like during auto parts manufacturing). Industrial solvents are usually toxic, generate hazardous waste, and contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which are harmful to public health and the environment. But Amyris’s new line of cleaning products, made with Myralene™ renewable solvents, is sustainably-sourced, readily biodegradable, and made from plant sugars.
