High-performing biobased materials are showing up everywhere – from soda bottles to sneakers, tires, and yoga pants. According to a recent article in Chemical & Engineering News, Biobased Polymers, the reach of biobased materials into consumer products has expanded thanks to years of engineering work and corporate determination. Small start-ups and large corporations alike are increasingly interested in incorporating biobased polymers into their consumer products. Invista, a synthetic fibers maker once part of DuPont, is opening up its supply chain to biobased materials not just because it’s better for the environment. According to  Gary Smith of Invista, “we believe biotechnology has the potential to significantly improve the cost and availability of several chemicals and raw materials that we use to produce our products.”
