Annual Plants to Products Forum: Growing Biobased Manufacturing Jobs in Rural Maine
October 17, 2013
Forest Bioproducts Research Institute, Old Town, Maine
On October 17th, 2013, 75 business leaders and researchers gathered to talk about growing biobased manufacturing jobs in rural Maine as a sustainable economic development strategy that can leverage sustainable use of our natural resources to create jobs, slash fossil carbon, and make environmentally friendlier products. Participants heard from Corinne Young of ReChem: Renewable Chemicals and Materials Alliance, and toured the Forest Bioproducts Research Institute, a University of Maine center providing technology validation and partnerships related to forest bioproducts, and Old Town Fuel & Fiber, a company that plans to break ground on a commercial demonstration plant to turn wood into sugars, nature’s chemical building blocks that can be used to make biobased chemicals, bioplastics and biofuels. We’re excited to be positioning Maine to lead in the coming revolution in safer, renewable chemistries and biobased products! If you missed the event, learn more here:
